QTEA to promote cruise tourism in Qatar

24 Dec. 2008

Cruise Tourism in Qatar is gaining popularity as days roll on. Qatar is looking forward to transform itself into a new destination for cruise liners and the project is already geared up to go. The Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (QTEA) have setup a delegation to participate in a regional meeting in Dubai. FutureBrand, in a recent disclosure has already named UAE as the world leader in providing standardized variety of resorts and lodging options. Cruise companies are uniting to ensure that tourists are offered a variety of travel and staying options for Cruise Tourism in Qatar. Gulf association is the key for promotion and development of the growing cruise industry in the region, according to speakers at the Sixth Seatrade Middle East Cruise Conference in Dubai. Pier Luigi Foschi, chairman and CEO of Costa Crociere said that there is a need for a permanent forum to debate and progress issues such as port infrastructure, shore excursions and immigration formalities. Costa Crociere has three cruise ships based in Dubai for the winter season-when most of the tourists prefer to visit the region. Michael Bayley, Senior Vice President International for Royal Caribbean Cruises commented that a body such as the European Cruise Council or Asian Cruise Association would be an excellent vehicle for collective development of the cruise tourism industry within the region, to include representatives from government, tour operators and cruise lines themselves.  The QTEA is to discuss with major tour operators and cruise companies the possibility of Cruise Tourism in Qatar on the cruising map.
