There's more room for Ritz in Doha

1-June-2007

Doha could be home to more Ritz-Carlton properties than the existing two, the GM of the company's new Sharq Village & Spa has claimed. "There is more than a chance to have other Ritz-Carlton's in Doha for one key reason: we are talking about different concepts," Abdul Aziz Al Emadi said. "The Ritz-Carlton Doha and Sharq are targeting two completely different markets and customers are looking for different types of products and categories. We must drive this." The Sharq, he said, was targeted at high-end leisure travellers, spa junkies, as well as meetings and incentives, whereas The Ritz-Carlton Doha was traditionally a business hotel, which also catered well to large events and conferences. "Our 650 square metre Six Senses spa with 23 treatment rooms is one of our key selling points," said Al Emadi. "The country is targeting the spa customers and there is a huge market for spas." The Sharq Village & Spa, which had a soft opening two months ago is now 70% completed, according to Al Emadi. A 1785 square metre Royal Suite, comprising five suites in one building, a majilis, pool, kitchen and fitness area, as well as a seafood restaurant are yet to be completed. The property, which boasts 174 beits (rooms) decorated with intricately designed furniture, hand-made carpets, and velvet and silk embellishments is unique in that it's the first in Doha to showcase Qatari culture and traditions and even features an indoor souk. Resort owner Qatar National Hotels Company (QNH), said it built the property this way based on "extensive market research".
